1968 Dodge Coronet

We will be doing a TREMEC 5-speed conversion on this B-body Dodge over the next few weeks. Follow along as the project unfolds.

Below are pictures of the completed project!  Below that are pictures of the project!

This is the beginning of the project

First remove the old trans and test fit the new bellhousing
check coencentric run-out between the crankshaft and the bellhousing to ensure trans will center exactly with the crank. cut-out the floor and test fit the transmission
transmission and new crossmember temporarily installed so a measurement can be taken for the driveshaft check for tight clearances and mark with chalk before removing the trans
after mock-up, remove transmission, trim and adjust tunnel to provide rattle free clearance.
remove wide brake pedal and install new pedal kit. new hydraulic slave cylinder and linkage location
test fit console and check shifter location the tremec shifter is centered and therefore, we don't need the 4 speed console! The automatic console will be installed instead.
secure the floor insert and remove the trans Now, weld the insert to the existing floor
after the floor is welded, grind flush and cover the seam with epoxy to prevent leaks you can see the weld from below. epoxy this also and finish the floor with POR15 or similar to prevent rust
install the pilot bearing, clutch disc and pressure plate, making sure to align the disc to the pilot shaft. Re-install the transmission for the final time! We are welding a set of sub-frame connectors to help stiffen the chassis
stereo speaker replacement for factory 7 x 10 dash speaker
Notice the underhood stiffner added for support Powdercoated and finished ...
carpet fitment for new console and seats
needed to remove the dash cluster to replace ammeter gauge swapping process
re-install dash, test fit seats and steering wheel door color is too dull - redo
much better now
